Candlestick delivered with good wind on Sunday with about 20-25 sailors enjoying the 18-20 mph winds from 3:30 on. Saw 4.5 to 6.5 sail ranges on the water with the regulars, the freestylers, and hardup windsurfers such as myself present...heck, even the naked dude was sailing at the Stick today. I was on a 5.5 but should have rigged a half meter smaller. Plan on getting a few more sessions in this week...not putting away my gear til the fat lady sings

Best day at Lopez in awhile. 2 hours of solid 6.0/90L, followed by an hour of 5.3 with avg hitting 25 gusting to 29. Warm water/air after the heat wave, so it was just board shorts and a thin sunshirt. Only 3 of us out but still got some solo time too. Lucky my jury duty was a wave off today!

Yesterday 6.0 and cross 114 with 34 cm fin and that was little much at times.
10 people out is my estimate.
Today 5.7 and the new FreeWave 106 could have gone smaller on the sail
but it was up and down do to clouds . About the same number of people it didn't kick in till 3:30 to 4 both days . Today it blew hard for about and hour or
two then totaly shut off . of course by the time everybody came in and
derigged and packed the clouds cleared and it came back about 6. And it felt cold today in a 3/2 .

1:30 to 3pm session at Haskins Way by the recycle center. Wind was marginal and came in puffs which created 30 to 40 meter bands of wind that could be milked for some decent but short rides (perfect for a freestyler) . Once you get your board planing, gybes, tacks, and any transition move is so much easier at Haskin's as there is hardly any chop on the water. I was on a 5.5/110L combo and had fun despite the short rides..I'll take whatever I can get at this point of the season.

Wonderful fall sailing at Lopez again today with 3 hours of sweet 5.3/90L. Only 3 out, then 2, then just me... WOW!!! Today was a jumping bonanza. Felt a little strange at one point to look around and not see anybody else, anywhere! Migrating birds were in full force with multiple species everywhere. Only issue was the low water level giving me significant pucker factor when I would run off the wind and hit 5th gear knowing my 11 inch fin was in only 15 to 20 inches of water at times. All part of the fun. And I'm still on jury duty call this week

People were sailing on 5.5 to 6.6 around 3PM at the Stick today. But the wind started ramping up big time around 3:30PM. By 4:30PM we were already in 4.2 to 3.5 and washing machine like conditions in the middle of the cove. Many people got caught with not bringing their small stuffs. Three guys were still on the water with 3.5 to 5.0 sails at 6PM as I was leaving. There seems to be more windy days in later Sept and early October than July this year .

3rd Ave Tuesday-Wednesday late afternoon special
Tues- 5.3m way too big!
Wed- 5.0m still too big!
4.7 probably would have been right for me. Still a lot of fun though. Wind good through sunset. Big 2 knot ebb to mud, an acquired taste. Fin first sailing can get you back through the shallows in style. Still have to walk some mud though, good cardio!

I still generally stand by my previous post about sailing in October but late afternoon Wednesday at Crissy was pretty spectacular. 4.5 sail and lots of ebby swell.
Except for the occasional NW wind day this time of year, I am more accustomed to pretty marginal thermally driven winds so needless to say, yesterday's October surprise was nice.

Have had some fun days down at Cabrillo Beach. Hurricane Simon brought some waves too. Monday was the first day of the swell, with some logo high waves... wind was light on the inside, but there were enough breaks in the sets to make getting out relatively painless. Tuesday had similar size, maybe a little smaller overall, but with bigger peak height too... also the waves were more frequent, and there were some long sets. Waves seemed to hold up better too for more turns. Wednesday, the swell had dropped, but there were still some waves to be ridden... wind was a little more consistent too.

He got some really nice shots of the surfers, too.
