Thanks Tramontana00. Tides look OK for Haskins this week end. Hoping for wind now... Hopefully we won't terrorize any free stylers zipping by in our speedos
btw, please clarify what the GPS Speedo Speedsurfing Geek rules : All files need to be uploaded directly and calculated/ corrected by the web site or OK to enter the data manually?
Asking since my GPS showed a 33.83 knots (max 2sec) on the display while "corrected" to 33.49 kt (max 2sec) on the web site once the file was uploaded... Would the variance mean that the GPS accuracy allow for a slight adjustment as the file is being "reviewed"? Tech geeks, please chime in (in your speedos, no photos please) |

Your GPS display shows the maximum speed while the software calculates the maximum 2 second speed, hence the slightly lower number.
KA72.com is a great site to upload your files and have them calculated, as well as showing them on a Google map page.
The GPS is pretty accurate, I pioneered the system back in 2006 and did the development work to bring Doppler speed measurement to speedsailing.

In my experience GPSResults software is the best and easiest way to analyze data and upload files to GPS-Speedsurfing.com web site.
KA72 works good and it is for free but missing 500m discipline. It works perfect for posting on GPS Team Challenge web site. It also gives slightly higher 1 hour average speed in case of falling of the plane here and there. This is because GPSResults doesn't calculate any time spent at speeds below 5 knots.
So, to elaborate some more on 2 sec. max speed vs. max display speed (1 sec.), it makes no difference if you post it manually or use software, the numbers will be the same for 2 sec. max speed.
Speedos forever! |

Boris you may want to check your settings in GPSResults. Sounds as if you have the minimum speed filter set at 5 knots, you can set it at 0 if you want so it calculates the true distance you covered.
To understand the difference between the max display on the gps screen and the calculated 2 sec max you need to realise the gps calculates an instantaneous speed reading from the doppler data that measures the change in frequency as the gps receiver moves away from the signal source. The software on your computer takes 3 of these instantaneous readings that occur at 1 second intervals one after the other; it then averages the 3 readings to create the max 2 sec speed. All while wearing speedos! |

Yes, it's on 5 knots and yes it can be set on 0 but it always goes back to 5 knots as a default setting. So, to get it to calculate true distance it needs to be reset to 0 every time. Unless there is a way to make 0 knots as a default setting???
I figure it's the best to keep it at default settings. Most likely everyone does, so that makes it even game.
Best way around this little problem is to stay on a plane 100% of the time when attempting 1 hour average speed |

42% cloud cover, maybe not the best sign for a clean wind. It could be gusty and swirly but direction looks good, plenty of wind and warm enough for speedos...are you on a mission? I'll be there. |

Watching the wind and figuring out transportation. If predictions for 40 hold, I'll be there. The face of the moon your direction should be good for 40 knots. |
