I am about to purchase a wetsuit. I dont know much about them. I live in eastern NC. What do you all think would be a good one to consider? Is there a brand that would be good for windsurfing? Thanks so much, Len

I sail primarily Oregon Coast with water temps in the 50's with an Oneil 5/4 Mutant that has interchageable hood or reguar neck. In any case it is amazingly warm and I am impressed with how much better a suit you climb into from the top (no zipper up the back) is.

Fit is more important than brand, try on before you buy.
And you should be able to get in and out of it all by yourself, if you need help with that, it's not worth it.

I'm using smooth skin ones like those from NP. They have supreme wind chill protection wich is important here in the Midwest. On the downside there are not very durable, but if you don't mind gluing often with Aquaseal this is not a big issue. I also prefer using the less thick ones like the 4/3 and layering up with neoprene shorts, vests and even neoprene socks when the temperature falls below 50F. This way I can use one suit from 40F/my low threshold/ to 60F. My suit don't have integrated hud which tires the neck a lot/looking constantly upwind etc./ so I use separate hood or a beanie. I experimented a lot thru the years and this is by far my optimum solution for the cold days.

NPX Zellot. Full no stink lining, integrated hood. I got the 6/4. Easy to put on and off. Warm and comfortable. Semi dry.

I agree 99% with adywind (just make sure the suit will fit comfortably over the extra layers). My only change would be neoprene cement rather than Aquaseal for cuts and tears; the former does not affect flexibility and if used carefully does not show. I also use a variety of neoprene or drytop jackets or vests over my suit for even greater versatility and quicker changes.
