Who the heck uphauls in those conditions? The guy in the picture, of course, but why?

After not rigging with an uphaul for the last 25 years, I started using one with my SUP. Uphauling in the break zone with 8 seconds to the next wall coming thru is a trip. It's actually not as hard as it might seem, often glassy smooth between the waves.
When I started on the sup, I would try to waterstart in marginal conditions, struggle with all kinds of goofy moves to get my body on the board. I use the uphaul more regularly now.

With all the white sharks around Cape Cod waters these days I am up hauling in light wind waves all the time!!!
Outcast is right. Even without Whitey in the hood.
I remember watching Robby Naish in 1998 at hookipa up hauling to avoid ending up on the rocks in a big swell no wind inside and that got my wheels spinning.

well since the wind was going to die quickly on that day , we went to ramp 38.. a better location would have been up at pea island, since the wind would have no been so offshore and gusty as it was at 38. but we got a session in and it died as predicted so all it good.
