I heard they had to order more charters. Big event. Hard to practice with no wind. |

That's right, there should be over 75 charter reservations at this point, with more gear being shipped from around the world to meet this wonderful demand.
I expect over 100 Kona One boards on the starting line! _________________ Support Your Sport. Join US Windsurfing!

It's been so long since any race committee in the US has had to set up a course for a 100 boat fleet. I hope they remember how. Loooooooong starting line and a windward mark about a mile from the starting line to thin folks out is what I remember. |

I'm thinking that the last time I went to a race with a 100+ board fleet was US IMCO Nationals in Pensacola Beach in the early 90's. It was the year before an Olympics, so all of the hotshots were there. The local shop owner did a great job of running it. The starting line was long. The first windward leg was so far away that they parked a sailboat next to it, so people could find it. That's what was needed to thin folks out so that we weren't constantly bumping into each other. We also had a big upwind finishing leg, which made for some great tactical racing.
Three minutes before the first start on the first day, I saw a guy sitting on his board well away from the starting line. I sailed over to him, and told him there were less than 3 minutes left. He said that he wasn't even going to get up, because there would be a general recall. He was right. Everyone was so amped up that it took 3 or 4 tries to start that first race. |

The current wind forecast is showing at least 2 days with winds near the upper limit of Kona racing rules. Who'd a thunk that would happen in the Keys? |
