the weight loss would help, but the weight would not be distributed over the board length/width.
Boards UK magazine tested the different lighter VS standard weight boards,
went so far to use identical twins , they found that the lighter weight constructions advantage was insignificant.
The most noticeable thing was carrying the board to from the water.
And if the board was larger, think they tested 105--110L and down, then the difference would be more noticeable, so a weight loss on your theoretical purchase may be important _________________ K4 fins

As any experienced windsurfer would know, 3 lbs. of board weight makes a HUGE difference in early planing, glide, and control.
Now, which direction the 3 lbs you go depends on your skill level. |

Thanks guys, so losing 3 lbs of board weight is a huge difference than losing 3 Lbs of body weight. That in combination with stiffness (carbon), adds to early and hopefully sustained planing. |

Ken Winner has a fair amount of experience, and IIRC was involved in WSMag's which disproved that assumption. |

steve g. and i are nearly thhe same height and weight. we tested 2 nearly identical boards the techno 283 vs the hifly 283 carbon. we used the same sail model, even the same fin. in the middle of the boards' wind range, they had the same performance. in light wind and heavy, the carbon won.
scientific method. gotta like it. gotta make sure one carries it out to all ends of wind range. _________________ www.aerotechsails.com

Scientific method? w/ different shapes? Winner/James/et.al. used the same boards w/ and w/o a 5# weight at the mastfoot, used same boards with different constructions (thus different weights), and swapped off riders as I'm sure you did. I doubt anyone's ever accused Winner of being sloppy about his methodology. And what does "the carbon won" mean anyway; what were the criteria?
Blanket statements ought to stay under the blankets unless explained as such. |

The BIC Techno is what 150Liters, yes the weight saving on a board that large will enhance things.
Isobars, I hope you are sitting down, I agree. _________________ K4 fins

If it were easy it would be called kiteboarding.
The wonder of it all you get to decipher the varied responses,
Dont wear a wetsuit and save 3 pounds without giving up cake
you will or should have noted that we all like to present opposing views, present company included.
Most of use like to make others happy, most, so if spending money on the thing we like dearly would make someone perky, then go for it ,
change the fin. make a list of the possible returns on your $ & ¢ spent.
I have a Formula board, Starboard olde one 152L, it offers VERY little in the way of performance over an my Tabou Rocket 135L, it is at ,lives at, my summer cabin in Maine, I would not cart it around elsewhere. It is wide and offers that as a platform to non planing conditions, if its marginal planing I stay on the F, otherwise I switch to the Rocket. Both on 7.5 Cheetah. Larger as 8.5 gave little increase in performance, just weight.
hope you cure your headache _________________ K4 fins
