We drove from Cape Cod to Corpus Christi. Even at 15 mpg, the round trip is cheaper than one ticket to Bonaire. And we have our own gear. Nice 1 BR condos go for $1200-1500 per month. A week for 2 at the Sorobon is > $2000, plus air.
Sure it's colder here. In the past 5 weeks, we had 4 or 5 days with high temperatures below 50. Not so great if you're camping. Not a problem if you're in a condo and have to work every now and then. We've also had days with sun and temperatures above 70 about every week. Cold fronts usually pull through in a couple of days; warm stretches seem to last a bit longer.
We've had on average 3 days per week with planing conditions, mostly on 4.7 & 6.0. Our dry suits and Ianovated suits stayed at home. The warmest suit I brought is a 4/3, which was perfectly fine so far. I used a neoprene shirt underneath exactly once. A hood and warm boots are a good idea when the wind is out of the north.
But if you have more money than time, the Caribbean may be a better choice. |

Boardsurfr ... Wow, that is indeed a step funtion change in price. Right, this time of the year, time was the most costly. Only 5 months and I'll be on Cape Cod. Love sailing there ... where I learned as a kid. |
