I have found sailing in ultra light wind is all about railing upwind, it's the only way to generate enough resistance from the sail to stay hooked in with your harness because otherwise you are left holding up the rig and that gets tiresome after a short while.
It's actually quite fun and relaxing to be cutting upwind at a very high angle, leaning way forward holding onto the uphaul with your front hand, the rail cutting thru the water like a knife... tack back and forth way upwind then sail home straight downwind. With the correct rail shape and parallel sides you could sink the preferred leeward rail. |

Yes, I do that with my Amundson 11 SUP ... but I would like a bit more performance. Other than buying a Starboard FreeRide or similar the idea is to build one ...
Talking of which, I realized that the Starboard Freeride has a 40cm Tuttle centerfin ... it might be the best option. Easy installation, and I have Tuttle race fins from 28 to 52 to play with! |
