I have some minor damage to my board, not concerned about the actual repair because it's minor and should be a routine repair. However, to make it look like new again how can I could get a good match on the grey color found on the Exocet Windsup, without spending a small fortune?

Looks like yer basic gray automotive primer to me. Is it glossy, or flat? If flat, and if one of the shades of primer from Lowe's/HD matches, it'll take you about 15 minutes to fix it -- 14 to mask the deck and one to shake the can and spray the damaged area. One of my boards came with a gray primer bottom (goes great with the red/gray/black deck scheme) and it has always looked new because if it doesn't, it takes minutes to paint it from a $5 can.

OTOH, are those scratches in the paint, or skin ruptures? If the latter, never mind, as ya got a bigger hassle.

Sandy Point Progressive Sports (the importer) for advice on color matching.

When I cared about this sort of thing, I would take the board to
my local auto paint mixing store, get them to match and mix me
a spray can, and call it good. That was 20 years ago, but back
then I could get a can of perfectly matched spray paint for about $30.

I like Isobars eye on this , looks to be auto light grey primer, gloss should not be hard either.

Since its your board and a sale should include the repaint on the repair, I would not fuss with it, paint then sand to try and blend in.
Its a board not a Ferrari

You will have virtually no chance of a good color match using off the shelf auto primer. It would be dumb luck if it even gets close. Depends how good you want it?

Best bet would be talk to the manufacture and see if they can send a sample or touch up paint. Maybe they have a crossover formula that will work from another manufacture or a universal color number.

If you have a chip big enough taken out of the board or want to haul that thing in, a paint store like Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams could color match it dead on off their computer and then hand tweak if necessary. They can put it in an aerosol can either in either oil or water for you as well. Just don't go to a big box retailer and expect any help.

A good color matcher or auto paint guy could do it to. Not sure what type of paint you should use for water submersion? My guess is a slow dying oil will bond. Check with the boardlady's site.

the paint companies mentioned above do HOUSE paint. You IMO dont want a auto paint, lacquer rx.

I think you can get a reasonable match with store bought paint, esp grey. You can sand it to kinda blend into the existing .

An alternative is to use a color for a section of the nose that is a contrast,

perhaps black or one similar to some other on the board. For this repair unless I had my spray gun/compressor out I would use a can from the store, better quality, little more $ than the cheapest stuff, and enamel. Most at Wallyworld Home Depot are this

If I did use the spray I would mix my color to match as close as possible, I use Interlux Polyurethane enamel, you can mix black to obtain the shade needed. Some of my work

cg: "When I cared about this sort of thing,"

That's where I'm at

Any poxy spray at Home Depot that gets close is good enough for me

But...if you want to sell it then you want to look all pro

I think on the Starboard forums sometimes they give up the paint numbers

Actually I think topside paint for a boat will get pretty close on the gray, but that's $ cause they prob only have a pint or more, and it$ a $BOAT$

you can also brush on the Marine paint, sand smooth, thin re apply and get a reasonable finish.
