Squatch was due to arrive today.

It's held up of all places in ONTARIO.

If I find out that the Amphious Rodent had anything to do with this......

Bambuser OBX wave sail report from yesterday.

I need to invest in a new/better camera, but you can still see the long lines and setup in Nags Head yesterday! The swell filled in late day and it was world class... of course this time of year, it was quiet out there!

Too late Pete...There'll be nothing but shreds left

Too late Rodent...UPS says it made the border....Why anyone would send such a hi-tech piece of water equipment thru the tundra escapes me

Bill...That's what I'm talking about!!!

I'll be there April 2 for a shortened stay, but hopefully it will be short and SWEET!!!

btbill, I would love to be there in May/June, but some of us have vocations that don't allow us to take off when we want to. Unfortunately, I have to have August off every year, when there is never any wind on LI. And then, when the wind comes back in September, beautiful September, I have to be back at my vocation.

Guess I need to find somewhere else to be in August. How's the wind in OBX then?

Ahhh August.... Indeed, it is our least windy month, but with today's modern gear and WindSUP options, who needs wind?!

What August does provide is opportunity for world class surf! Ironically in all the years I have lived/wavesailed on the OBX (since 1993), my best wave sesh ever was August 21, 2009 with SE swell from Hurricane Bill hitting Coqunia Beach. Perfect SSW side off wind, long period swell, cloudless sunshine, and 80+ degree air and water... and the launch was 15 min from my house! I am sure there is a thread dedicated to Hurricane Bill found in the archives of this forum or on my blog.

Only crap shoot with August is that there may be only a few days in the month to score. Though if you can plan for the second half of the month, there is bound to be a score in there at least surf wise and perhaps with some wind as well?!

One thing to help gauge August is to check out my blog Bill's OBX Beach Life. I have a calendar widget on the top right column which you can use to view posts for a given month/year. From the Calendar, you can see each post for a given August within a given year to see how much we have been scoring during that month in the past. Records go back to 2006 and includes commentary, images and video!

All in all, August can be quite a good month, especially if you can devote time and can short plan based on any far flung tropical activity. Of course a windSUP would fill any gaps as well!

I have 4/19--5/12 booked for Nags Head with trips to HI based on wind and direction.

btbill,
thank you. that's all great info. I was afraid there isn't much wind there in August either. Maybe West is the way to go.
