Possibly the windsurfer's using foils are hoping for a racing scene, but right now, it isn't competitive with even bigger slalom boards.
It might get better, who knows, or it might not.
Upwind and downwind, kite foils win, Formula second, bigger slalom third, then windsurf foils right now.
Board speed totally favor slalom, as does jumping for whatever reason with such gear, and g force jibes.

I suspect the current windsurf foil idea needs a change in underwater foil sizing in order to keep up with the needs.
For slalom, smaller foils with smaller boards.
For course racing, maybe Bigger foils, able to handle bigger sails.
Currently, seems some of the windsurf foil guys easily get up to the top of the Berkeley Pier, quicker than slalom boards, slower than formula.
Top speeds would depend on size of the foil. Currently maybe an in betweener, not fast enough for slalom, not quite big enough to go upwind as efficient as Formula.
Kitesurf foils have the advantage of variable lift, with the angle of the kite.
