Anyone have thoughts on the best spots to visit for wind in Europe in the summer? Alex Mackay reported on Tarifa and said Its a great place, but do make sure you go during the windy season (July/August) and take your 3.5 because when it blows... Some friends of mine were down there and they couldnt open the doors of their truck one day because the wind was so strong. How is the rest of the season at Tarifa? And, what are some other great windy spots? |

Tarifa is windy most of the time but to be safest statistically, go during the summer.
If you want the most reliable wind in Europe I would recommend the Canary Islands (owned by Spain) off the coast of Africa. Here you get very reliable summer trades in June/July/August. I used to take a couple of weeks vacation there each summer and had 20 knots plus for 90% of the days.
You can choose from Gran Canaria, Futerventura, Lanzarote or Tenerife. (Im English by the way, Im over here for a year enjoying the delights of Waddell Creek and some decent waves). |

Hi,
the best spot in Europe is Gran Canary in July. Go to Vargas, a neighbor bay of Pozo, where the worldcup takes place. You will need a 3.7 and maximum 4.7. I was there 3 times and had every day excellent sailing conditions. |

The Canary Islands are great - Fuertaventura is the best.
On mainland Europe - in no particular order I would recommend
Lake Garda - Northern Italy. Fabulous scenery, great food, consistent thermal wind - 5.5 - 6.5
Vassiliki - Greece (Lefkas). Great thermal wind - 5.0 - 6.0, shite food,warm water
Tarifa - Spain
3.5 - 8.0. Not quite as reliable as it is made out to be - but at its best it is the best. Great waves |
