So many of us non-racers have started having entire quivers without any cams. The non-cam trend has been rolling along for a few years now. Does anyone have an opinion on whether us non-camers are missing something, or is it pretty much sundown for the Camber Inducer? |

CAMS offer better sail set for more power and more control. Additional weight sometimes a problem with water starting if air is marginal for power needed. |

Jims message was the industry line for a long time and I believed it. Course theyve changed their line in the last couple of years. But I just bought and have sailed twice on a yr2000 North camless design. Rigged on the ground, the sail has all the shape of a 4-5 cam race sail -sweet! On the water the thing was super stable (last wens 5/10 at Pt. Isabel in 20-25mph). I think the modern camless sails are here to stay. Why hassle with inducers if you dont need to? |

Cams are reallyreally important ... when racing upwind for money .... for the time being. Otherwise, they serve little purpose any more, and make a sail less maneuverable once ya forego slalom sailing
for B&J or wave sailing. I havent owned a cam now since the 80s except in my biggest sail, a 6.6 I rarely use, and its replacement will be camless.
But sundown ... not any time soon. Too many people just havent caught on yet that camless sails work just as well, are simpler and lighter, and avoid the cost of the cams and their pockets.

No, a single cam is still good to punch and to keep the sail from deforming in gusts. Just get the ones that can be removed as well. Even at the coast, when it is really onshore and you can only go backside they are ok. |

after Norths TransAm, I am convinced on the camless. Its hard to believe its camless, it performs really well. However, NPs V8 series is hard to beat. |
