Golf is too expensive.

And everyone already rides bikes to get around, so biking isn't a big deal.

I read a long time ago that windsurfing caught on in Europe because there having a sailboat is for rich people, due to expense of marinas, etc.

There's some truth in that Braden, but isn't the point that some cultures have a long standing maritime heritage, or a fascination with just floating on the briny?

I long ago knew that it was the sea which was the real magnet and indispensable constant that lives in the soul, so whatever gets you out on it (Windsurfing, sea kayaking, yachting) is actually just a means to an end - though some think it an end in itself.

I don't think it a mystery why windsurfing trumps yachting for many, in that it is a sea CONTACT experience (immersed IN your element, so to speak), and for the same reason surfing scratches that itch in way nothing else can. (Total immersion, and spanking!) Though, especially when being tubed, Mr Freud would have it otherwise in that it's sexual, or reliving womb memories - but he was just a pervert! Laughing

So some of us always felt a yacht was just a step too far from actual bodily contact with our element. Nearest I got was a small catamaran for extended sea camping journeys, but in some ways it was the worst of all. (Very wet, very cold in our climate, and not physically active enough.)

No, windsurfing and sea kayaking are the kings, especially with a set purpose 'voyage' in mind= AKA longboarding Wink .

Or 'Och aye tha noo' as the midge addled brains of our northern partners would have it!
