I can't find any info on how to order the outhaul lines. There's meant to be a loop that goes through the sail eyelet but how do you firm the loop and what do you you tie up on the boom to be able to tension this?

There are MANY clew hardware configurations on the market. We'll need a boom make and model and/or a photo.

Xtreme proline
Is the basic one line to the clew but needs a loop somehow.

MAYBE this photo will help. The red (not orange) line is formed by pushing a loop through the clew grommet from background to foreground, then hooking it over the freestanding nub towards the left of the clew.
If this isn't clear, or if it's not similar to your boom, I found it by searching on such terms as Proline hook loop clew outhaul; maybe you can Google up a better photo.

In the background, how do you form the initial loop and where do you tie a knot in the line to secure it in the actual plastic area?

Shove your dangling line through any hole in the clew block and tie a figure 8 knot in it to form the loop. Then shove the loop through the grommet and hook it over the bare nub.
Or fugheddabout the loop'n'go OPTION and just lash up the outhaul normally. Loop'n'Go just saves a few lashing seconds; the end result is the same.
