|
|
Anybody have a trick for locking your car with modern keyless entry vehicles? In the past I would stick my keys (when no one was looking!) up inside the coil spring of one of the front suspension struts of my van. My new rig has keyless entry so if the key fob is too close to the front of the vehicle I can't lock it. I have done some experimentation and I can lock it if the fob is somewhere near the right rear wheel or further aft. I could probably find a suitable place to attach a lock box in that region. What do y'all use?
Thanks

I just use an aquapac worn under my suit. I was worried at first, but I've never had a leak and I get pummeled sailing the Cali Coast. Used the same one for four years. Nice thing is that it allows the proximity key to work normally.

Get the non electric "valet" key, might cost $30. Wear it on a string around your neck, inside your wetsuit. |

-1 on Aquapac.
I have had several of them for my cell phones. They all started out OK but eventually ended up leaking.

Aquapac's key pouch works fairly well, but the seam is not especially robust and can open up, so it is best to keep a spare pouch or two and to check the seam before each session. I use it with an ordinary key (there is a chip in the key head), but would be reluctant to trust it with anything with pushbuttons or a battery compartment.
Aquapac's VHF radio bag holds the radio OK, but neither of the two that I have had, have been effective at keeping water out. Fortunately the radio is water resistant. |

Agreed. I'm using waterproof bags for my GPS, and they all start to leak sooner or later. But you could double-bag with a small ziplock bag, and you'd be fine.
I'm using a realtor lock box that you can get for $25 or so at a hardware store. It's two of us windsurfing most of the time, and this works well. |

Look on eBay for a magnetic key box thingy. I use one for my key fob (not keyless entry). Stick it up I the wheel well. Reason I do this is not so much for theft .....but b/c putting on wetsuit or drysut...I once accidentally hit the door lock with my elbow and didn't realize it. When the door shut I though "f&$!"....only to see the tailgate was still up. And it happened A few times afterwards....but I had the magnet box for keyfob😀 |
