Thank you for posting the link to the sail repair tape at Chinook Sailing.
I tried some tape just like that a couple of years ago. It seemed to lose its stick when I took the sail back on the water. But then again, I likely did not cut away all the delaminated mylar nor did not use alcohol to clean off the Cuban Fibar under the mylar laminate before applying the sail repair tape.
Any how, can anyone share their personal review and comparisons between using sail repair tape versus Gorilla clear repair tape? Do both work equally well?

Actually, no, Gorilla Clear if punched will rip quickly and easily. Sail tape
(at least the type I've used), has rip-stop material built into it, and will
hold up pretty well even after you set it down on say a gnarly blackberry
bush. I have some that has been holding my 5.2 Northwave together
for years. I'm not saying the Gorilla tape is bad, and I use that stuff also,
but for really nasty rips, I tend towards the sail tape.

Rental companies on Maui have used the tape I mentioned,
For this sail, it's condition, I would use heavy packing tape or packing tape with reinforced grid, spending gobs of cash will result in spending bogs of cash _________________ K4 fins

[quote="allanjeong"]I see that a 3" x 30' roll of clear laminated repair tape costs $30 at Sailrite.com
On the Sailrite website look in the fabric section. The insignia section has white Dacron cloth in 10, 14 and 18 inch widths all less than $8.75/yard. It is sold by the yard so you don't have to buy a whole roll. If you follow the instructions in my previous post it should stick fine even without sewing. |

Look into Tear-Aid repair tape sold by Hot Sails Maui. This tape is highly adhesive and is soft and somewhat elastic in property. When applied over existing stiching and other surface irregularities, it easily conforms to the surface shape of the sail. I've applied this to repair torn monofilm windows, punctured Dacron sail cloth on a Super Freak and torn mast sleeves and the repair and been exceptionally strong - even the torn mast sleeve which is under heavy load. The adhesive is really strong and claims to be permanent - mine has not peeled up after more than a years use with regular exposure to sun and salt water. A really excellent sail repair product IMO.
