Big wind yesterday at 3 mile. Was kiting off the green maker when - who really knows what happen - but kite loaded up big time on a toe side to heel transition. I got flung x2 harder than ever before, and resurfaced to see my kite spinning like a top. Not good. Tried to relaunch a few times and clean the lines, but the kite was flagging like a ragging rag doll and both bridles were wrapped each wing tip. Stayed with it until my board was moving beyond a reasonable swim … and continuing to travel pretty fast downwind. So pulled the move that friends and I had discussed numerous times; hit both releases and said my goodbye to 6 meter and swam for my board.

Then the windsurfing boys circled and came to the rescue. Mark dropped in the water and held my board … a move that ‘improved my day.’ A short effort to swim to the Oregon side revealed how long a slough it was going to be. Mark came back and we body dragged until his arms were spent, then Mike, then Tim. As I was expressing my thanks and admiration for their skills, I think it was Mike that said “we’re all brothers on the water.”

Thanks Brothers!

Windsurfers, Kiters or SUP’ers. It’s awesome to have good people, with strong skills and big hearts around when stuff goes bad. Many Thanks and Much Peace. Keep the wind at your back boys.

Somehow, my coffee tasted both stronger and sweeter this am. Truly appreciate that we keep an eye on each other out there!

Shawn

And John Whelan saved you $1000 by rescuing your kite. Glad you guys made it in safely. Fun but gnarly conditions. Peace
