Blog: Today the entire west coast only has local sea breezes

This blog and time lapse video explaining local sea breeze fronts in the Gorge is actually very relevant for the entire west coast today.

Today is one of those rare days where the only part of the wind machine working for Southern California, the Bay Area and the Gorge are the local sea breezes.

These winds set the foundation for all the west coast summer winds. Indeed in Southern California local sea breezes ARE the only significant summer time wind. While the Bay Area also has the NPH NW wind and the Central Valley thermal wind. And the Gorge has the NPH + thermal wind + passing shortwaves.

But on recent days when the only star is the local sea breezes Southern California usually comes out at the top of the wind graphs since there is little topography to weaken the sea breezes.
