|
|
I have not windsurfed for a great number of years and my gear is very outdated. I am excited to get back into the sport and am looking for a good place where I can get lessons, wind, rent gear and possibly update my outdated gear.
I've considered the Outer Banks because I can drive there from the Northeast. Are there any shops anyone can suggest? |

Check out ABKboardsports.com, they are on the east coast right now. Long Island next weekend, Atlantic city the following, then onto Hatteras for two weeks. Everything you need will be there, they are one of, if not the best windsurfing opportunity out there. |

Thanks Mike, I'm actually the guy looking for windsurfing opportunity. Rick told me about this website and started the thread to help me out.
I will check out ABK. There may also be a shop near Avon with lessons, rental equipment, and some nearby lodging. I'll research on my own, but perhaps someone out there knows more. |

Head down to Hatteras if the forecast looks good. The water is shallow pretty much everywhere in the sound (no struggling to waterstart) and will still be warm (you most likely won't even need a wetsuit until mid October). You can sail northerly and southerly wind directions which means more time on the water. It's an unbelievable place to learn.
There are a couple shops down there that offer gear and lessons. I recommend Wind NC. The owner Andy will set you up with both excellent lessons and quality gear and his customer service is outstanding. Definitely do an ABK clinic as well if you have the chance.
Psyched for you getting back in the sport. The gear is so much better now. You are gonna have a blast. |
