bird island/padre island for winter

im looking for a place to spend the winter at.. just wondering, are there many people sailing at padre island on the gulf side in the winter. ?

and, any thoughts or experiences of camping in that area in winter?

Ordinary El Ninos bring incessant rain and extensive flooding to south Texas. Last winter's rains there were the worst in a decade according to some locals, and it was not an extreme El Nino. When asked by the news anchor about the likelihood of this oncoming winter's El Nino being the worst in recorded history, the national weather guru being interviewed said something like, "It's not about likelihood. It is already the most intense we've ever seen, and is 100% certain to intensify further."

Corpus Christi, Bird Island Basin windsurfing - Fall (October- early November) and Spring (April-May, even June) are excellent at BIB. This summer has also been windy.

Winters, of course, are wetsuit, but very good windsurfing!
