At low water levels there is a dangerous wooden piling about 100' offshore from the launch at blackberry beach. On an east wind oct. 15th, I launched and shlogged for the first 10 seconds waiting for a puff. The puff came, i got on a plane for a couple second and then came a major hit agaist something solid causing a major crash. I was surprised my fin was still attached. - it had been shoved completely to the back of the box.
After I was done sailing i stood on the beach and looked for what i had hit. It was just below the surface of the water and would briefly show in the trough of the wave. The water level that day, per dam reading, was between 73.5 and 74 feet. Below 73', the piling would be clearly visible and above 76 it would be under enough water not to be a danger.
The wooden piling is about 100' offshore and about 20 or 30' west of a beam reach from the launch. There was also a piling sticking about a foot out of the water east of the launch near the rock jetty . It's maybe 120 feet west of the jetty tip.
it would be good to get some buoys on these pilings!
the photo shows what the launch looks like at about 73.5'. In the photo with the large boulder, the piling is in line with the center of the boulder, about 100' off shore.
