|
|
I noticed that the dimensions of the new Tabou Rocket 125 at 250 x 72 are approximately the same as the Futura 114 at 246 x 72.
Both are rated for the approximate sail sizes of 5.5 to 8.5 (9.0 for the Futura, but that might be stretching it on a 114 lt board).
Anyone have experience with these two boards? |

Hi GVogel, we are dealers for both Starboard and Tabou.
The Futura carries more volume through the tail section, with less nose volume. (Racier, will feel comfortable if you're planing in the straps most of the time, not as comfortable schlogging or tacking). Likes to go fast.
The Rocket has a more even volume flow nose to tail. (Easier tacking and all around sailing, easier schlogging if the wind dies, not quite as racy but still plenty fast for most everyone). Comfortable at any speed- you can keep the Rocket in 3rd gear if you want, or sheet in and access 5th gear.
The Futura has a Tuttle Box
The Rocket has a Power Box.
I'm looking forward to the 2016 Rocket 125s, which have been redesigned with a bit more width than 2015s. We'll have demos available in the Spring. _________________ formerly known as hodad.andy

Hi, the dimensions are pretty similar but the Rocket 125 will feel much bigger and less agile than the Futura 114. Why dont you go for the Rocket 115 instead. I have quite a few hours on both boards, (Rocket 115 (2014) / Futura 114 (2015)) and they are really nice boards. One important difference though, the Rocket uses Power box and the Futura uses Tuttle i.e. if you already have Power box fins in your quiver I would choose the Rocket and vice verca.
