Just bought a 26 Class C RV for Gorge trips. Would like to build/purchase rack system that would allow me to store boards vertically on back of RV. (board sizes: 82,88, & 96) I have seen this setup on other RVs in the Gorge. Any suggestions, contacts, help. Thanks.

I see many of them ... all homemade. 1 angle-iron frame, some open so the gear can get covered in exhaust, other owners pop-rivet sheet metal over the frame to deter exhaust, thieves, uv, etc. They all sit on a reinforced rear bumper.

I plan to get a 22-24-footer in a few years, and expect to explore three options: mount a faired box on top, mount a vertical cabinet on the back, AND/or gut part of the interior (I have no use for couches or easy chair foo-foo in an RV).

One thing I will for sure add if I put a box on the back os a sonar back-up system. They display the distance to the nearest object behind you when you back up. I have one on my present van and LOVE it.

Ive got a 21 footer, and put the boards on top. It a PITA. FYI, Ive spoken to someone with the rear board rack, and he warned me about the additional swing weight it adds, although it sure looked convenient. By the way there is a guy in San Pedro who builds a rack like you want. He came by with a flyer once offering to build a welded unit for a modest fee. If I find the flyer, Ill give you the number.
