During several mid-week visits to Lake Isabella (east of Bakersfield) this year, Ive been surprised by the few number of Windsurfers. This past Wednesday, when the winds were warm (95oF) and peeking at 35 mph, and there was probably no more than six sailors on the lake.
To judge whether or not it is going to blow at Isabella, check for a low pressure area over western Arizona on a weather site such as:

Alternately, look for a projected high (10+ oF) temperature differential between the forecast for Bakersfield and Ridgecrest. If you have both, good wind is likely. |
