Maui sails have the same design, but the fit is not tight (male into female), so I never had an issue with sticking together. Plus the male pin on the sail is on an adjustable strap and can be removed easily. This design is only on the adjustable head sails and probably common on most adjustable head sails.

I guess Manuel's issue is that the head is not adjustable and he can't get to the stuck pieces.

Can you bunch up the mast sleeve a little and grab the mast plug with vice-grips, then work the sail tip free a little at a time twisting and pulling? Or re-insert the mast and squeeze it with vice-grips (carefully!) to hopefully keep the mast plug pinched in the mast?

techno900,
Thank you! That's exactly the problem. I thought I made it clear, but I guess I didn't.

Jim, thanks for the suggestion, but I can do that because the top of the sail sleeve is some kind of hard rubber.

rswabsin,
Thank you, but the problem is not sand. The problem is that NP sails don't have a standard pin compatible with most masts, and I didn't know that.

But my main issue, as techno900 put it so precisely, is that the sail's head strap is not adjustable and I can't get to the stuck pieces.

I don't what kind of mast you're using, but in the past, I found that No Limitz masts have a female plastic plug that can be too small a diameter for some male sail plugs. To fix my problem, I just liberated a proper fitting mast plug from a broken mast. Since most of us usually break the bottom section of a mast, I have quite a collection of top sections hanging around.

One question I would ask is whether you can insert the mast successfully to catch the caught mast plug. If you can, you might have some alternatives. Jim.od3 second suggestion is a very good start. Another one would be applying West System G-Flex epoxy inside the top of the mast and inserting it into plug. After the cure, you should be able to break the attachment between the two plugs.
