Darnit, windguru forecast seemed pretty light and looking at the webcam at lakes bay it looked marginal. Think the webcam measured 14mph wind.
Is there a golden rule? Like if it's ssw and hot it will build? Or windguru always under predicts ssw with 5 kts etc? |

A couple of Qs from an out-of-stater:
- Anyone sailing today (Monday, Memorial Day) on Barnegat Bay or ocean-side? If yes, when, where?
- I am considering Trixies, Good Luck Road, or mebbe oceanside at Barnegat Light. Any educated opinions?
The afternoon holds potential for some mid-teens further north of LBI, even with the forecasted rain. If it does not realize, I'll play with the inflatable WindSUP, borrowed from a friend.
The drive for me is about 2.5hrs, so any wise words appreciated!

Golden rule?
Well if NOAA is calling for S/SW building to 15-20 and iwindsurf is predicting builds to the upper teens and the ocean is cold with hot inland temps, then there is a very good probablility there will be a solid seabreeze. I've never used wind guru, but NOAA and iwindsurf should be pretty good indicators.

Sensor on Lakes Bay reads low. On S-SW-W-NW it reads around 5 mph lower than actual wind. On N-NE-E it reads even lower because sensor blocked on this wind direction. _________________ Andrew

We don't have a predominant wind direction per se. Our winds are driven by weather systems.
Ahead of a cold front, we will usually have South / South West winds that increase as the front approaches. These are the winds that everyone enjoys because they are typically associated with warm, sunny weather. We also tend to get a thermal enhancement on the bay in the Spring & Summer time with this wind direction.
After the front passes, we will have West winds which turn North West and then North. These are typically strong, blustery winds which are associated with clear skies and cooler temperatures.
We can also have nor'easters which are associated with low pressure systems that move Northward up the coast and can bring strong conditions which may also be accompanied by substantial rainfall.
