|

Looking at a new 3.8 Maui Sails Mutant. http://www.mauisails.com/sail.php?id=164
Recommended mast (per MS) = 340 with 2cm vario top, 5cm base extension
alternate mast (per MS) = 370 with 31cm vario top, 4cm base extension
I only have a 370 and am not interested in adding yet another mast. Anyone have any experience/opinions on how this might work out? 31cm up top seems like an awful lot(?) My other option is Aerotech Air X 3.7..roughly the same price, and specs for a 370 mast. I have tried the Aerotech very briefly (on flat water) and it felt pretty good.
Usage would be almost entirely in backside wave/swell conditions, possibly a little frontside wave. |

That's interesting that you say that, because I was thinking the exact same thing. The winds are always going to be gustier once it gets to that point. There is also no need to have a "light" 3.7 I don't think...anything that small is already light. Would much rather have something with range and stability. |

I suggest the 340 mast. You pick the sail.
For sale 3.3 EZZY PANTHER LIMITED,5 B, 340 or 370, same 31cm out the head on the 370.
Depending on your existing mast may be a option.
2012, almost the same as a 2013Tiger. X cel lent cond.
PM if interested, ship from Colorado. _________________ K4 fins

IMHO, U2U2U2 wrote: | 31cm out the head | should never be an option. once you buy a 340, it is likely so strong, It might just last 15 years, unless it meets its demise on a reef or in the break.
Having a mast sticking out a bit is ok, but too much and the sail will never be right. Not really what you want in high wind, especially with sails that aren't well researched to work well. |

Update...used the Air X yesterday for a few hours in good conditions. Best 3.7 I have ever used. So that solves that. |

Well... The 1st line of my post said 340. Only if you use a 370 does it extend out the head, not clear your meaning on lack of reasearch?
Umm..must be why I have 310--thru 460 masts _________________ K4 fins
