We are looking to go on a Windsurf Vacation Mid to Late October. We live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and are looking to go someplace for a week or so. Where is a good place for wind, and are there other activities if there is no wind? Also is it children friendly?

The Gorge CAN be great in October. Pleasant days, cool nights, no crowds, frequent wind, clear skies, 39 documented alternative activities, the waters still OK (no dry suits required yet, even at dawn)... and 98% cheaper than Australia. Even if the corridor weather cruds up early (POct rather than Nov), the deserts still great.

yes, the gorge can rock in Oct. What i like best is uncrowded sites everywhere. many great days out east and sometimes strong easterlies at Stevenson/Rooster. Check out The Timbers for a cozy cabin in Stevenson, or Hood River Hideaways if you want to be in the corridor. i have stayed at both, with 2 small children, had a great time. Of course camping is great with plenty of sites available. ive often considered a Maui trip in Oct., but i just cant pull away from da gorge!
