Never seen one windsurfing but I have seen a few diving, fortunately at a safe distance where they seemed totally uninterested in me. I beat a calm, yet efficient retreat just to be safe. Before the dive, Two people on the boat who we were diving with said"I hope we see a shark!" They got their wish much to my dismay.

"Scratchy" a 13' Great White has been spotted off of Monomoy Island just a few days ago, so please be careful.

Scratchy is a sweetie don't worry about him.

The Cape Cod Times is a rag and does a disservice to the community with this sensational "reporting"

Conditional Probability aside, I don't believe there have been any confirmed windsurfer fatalities (attacks yes, but no fatalities [anyone hear differently??]).

I keep telling myself they just aren't programmed to eat us, if they were, I can't think a single beach would be open for public swimming as we just can't outrun a fish or seal, they'd come after us first, they don't.

Again, this is what I 'tell' myself as I whistle past the graveyard.

My hats off to PeconicPuffin and Shredbob for braving the waters again. I'd like to think my windsurfing addiction would win out over my fears but again, hopefully I'll never find out Shocked

Interesting research on making a wetsuit invisible to a shark. I've bookmarked this video at 36:35 where they begin showing how this wetsuit stealth technology works. This won't keep sharks from seeing your board, but perhaps if the worst happens and you are knocked into the water it may be very helpful.

This also talks about making a surfboard look like a poisonous sea snake. I believe you have to have the right pattern for your area in this regard. Since there aren't poisonous sea snakes off Cape Cod this particular choice probably would not work there.

Like I said in my blog post, my friends didn't care...everybody launched! BTW I just realized that my avatar photo (jibing in front of the wave) was taken on the day of the shark encounter...afterwards. I joke that my grim face shows me agonizing...do I REALLY want to head back out again?
