My wife and 2 boys (age 6 and are planning to go somewhere for about a month in June or July. We are looking to go somewhere warm (air and water) outside the U.S. Ideally it would combine some windsurfing and some travel, plus fun activities for the kids. Maybe go to one or two spots and have a home-base somewhere.
It needs to be somewhat affordable ($50/night lodging) if possible.
I was thinking about Aruba and/or Caberette (D.R.). Any good advice? Ideally, it would have some moderate waves and strong wind. |

Aruba comes to mind so that you can have something for everyone to do. There is a family facility near Fisherman's Huts with various leisure activities. And June is the windiest month in Aruba.
But if you want waves, Cabarete would be the place to go. The waves are friendly...
If you want the kids and wife to learn windsurfing - you might consider Bonaire, which has a nice, flat water lagoon.
Here is the basic scoop on the Aruba launch: Fisherman's Huts.

The family vacation sunsets on the terrace, enjoy under the fig tree, stretch out on the grass in the pool, forest walks, sweet from the garden, els.

Don't go to Bonaire. The windsurfing is great, the rest not so much for family - I could recommend it only to an entire family of avid windsurfers. |
