You'll probably have more luck on a SUP - wind isn't often consistent there. Are you going to fly cross country with all you stuff? Email me - I can loan you an older Starboard Element that will float you nicely in the lulls. I probably also have some older booms and masts around.

You want a NW/W setup in San Diego and ideally a S swell. The iWindSurf forecasts are useless for down there as they do not capture the very local effects. But If you hear the word "eddy" in the forecast, forget it.
When it gets windy down there, it's like a switch on-off. You see the wind line of whitecaps out to sea, then it just fills it and goes. It can be 4.7-5.2, but normally 5.8 is the call.
But actually, as you can see it sucks , don't go!
