Other than Lake Erie, our lake, CJ Brown Reservoir, in SW central Ohio, is the best sailing site in the state. Obviously, it ain't the Gorge or Maui, but it's what we have and we love sailing there when we can. Because it doesn't happen on a regular basis, it would be really nice to have a wind sensor there with real-time data. The closest accurate sensor is at the Dayton airport, 50 miles away, and it only reports on the hour.

I sent an inquiry to iwindsurf. They responded by asking if we had "enough people" to support one of their sensors with Pro memberships. Of course I responded by asking "what is enough people?" I would be interested in hearing stories about how sailors around the U.S. worked with iwindsurf to have sensors installed. What is that magic number? Do we need to find sponsors or sources of money? How did you go about building interest in memberships?

Thanks for ideas,
Marc

Just looked your spot up on YouTube and found a couple videos. How many windsurfers do you typically get out there?

Kevin, on a decent day we may have 5 sailors on the water. Sometimes a kiter shows up. It's really a nice place to sail-- grassy rigging area, sandy beach, usually side-onshore wind, clean warm water. The problem is that mid-summer means light winds.

I'm hoping we will be able to get commitments from enough people (including boaters/swimmers/kayakers) to buy Pro level iwindsurf memberships so we can have a wind sensor here.

Hi msrc5,

In the meantime use Weather Underground's WunderMap.

https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap/?lat=36.97901917&lon=-121.89797974&zoom=8&pin=Aptos%2c%20CA&rad=1&wxsn=0&svr=0&cams=0&sat=0&riv=0&mm=0&hur=0

You have to pan over to Ohio and Zoom In on your resivoir. Click on the weather stations to get the wind.
