Made it back today
All I can say are good things
Waves every day waist to chest to mast high depending on day. Even small days had over head sets come through
Only 1 day of light wind but surf always pumping
Legendary long rides. Average wind surf ride 10 turns. Long ones 30
One morning was watch short boards surf easily 1/2 mile rides
Chase boat to take you back.
I sup-Ed every morning but one. Too windy one day in am.
If you ride waves and want lefts there a few places that compare.
AWT
There is so much stoke for these events. I can not thank Sam Bittner and the awt team enough for their ability to draw participants and keep things running smoothly. They have chosen locations to maximize competition for all levels.
I think they have only been skunked 2x and even those events had wind and wave right before of after event window.
No exception here. In fact we could have run double elimination rounds but most were happy just to enjoy the pumping swell and great winds.
I mostly used 4.7 and 85 liter board
Pacasmayo had 30+ competitors from I think 12 countries.
Social interaction a sharing stories and stoke with all is priceless
Many very talented youth riders. So good to see this
Pacasmayo
Rustic town about 20,000 people.
Really great people friendly, helpful and tolerant of non Spanish speaking gringos like me.
El faro resort also a great place. Not a 5 star hotel but has what you need and willing to help in any way they can
Defiantly going back
After 10 days I am so much bette going left than before.
If you want to see pictures and results go to my fab or AWT fab page

Pete - great to see you going for it !
Curious on how were the logistics of bringing you gear ? Sup waveboard boom sails mast ... seems like a lot.
The pictures looked killer !

JP
I have traveled with my gear quite a lot over the years.
The hardest part is the transfers and baggage fees.
For this trip I was careful to plan the flight transfers so there was no lay over and limited hauling. but see below.
Other than sky cap carts the luggage carts in most airports a not good at carrying and surf gear. So you have to be capable of moving everything and this is really tricky alone. I am always in trouble with security for leaving bags alone. Next trip I plan to get a wheeled bag for at least one item.
I typically bring
SUP, one wave board, 2-3 sails, 2 masts, 2 booms.
Packing I put each board in its own bag. All tips and tail wrapped with wet suit or clothing and all double bagged. Weight per bag when done is about 25-30 pounds. Sails, booms and all clothes go in gear bag. can weigh up to 50 pounds.
Some people put all in one bag but this is very heavy and airlines getting more reluctant to take. I think anything over 90 lbs the can decline.
One the way to peru I was supposed to do BOS-JFK-Lima- Trujillo.
But bos to JFK canceled. Had to go to Laguardia and transfer. You can imagine that nightmare. taxi ride through NY, and lots of lugging. Made it by the skin of my teeth.
Way home was fine.
I would say that half the time all is good and half the time there is some nightmare involved.
Like most things related to windsurfing and part of the challenge is the difficulty. Travel is really part of the experience.
Also note that I am Platinum on American, and I will only fly American.
So often get preferred treatment. Which has been very helpful over the years. _________________ Read this

Sounds like an airport adventure. As long as the tsa doesnt detonate your abandoned board bag all is good. Jp |
