Big fan of my Ezzy lions and infinities
Have been changing over to Lions from my infinities and notice the Lions my have a weaknes. Looking to see if it just me or a trend.
Plus are any later model lions showing something similar?
Ezzy lion 7.5, 8.5 and 9.5 have developed a hole where the window meets the Luff tube. I notice on the infinities (7 and 8.5) that the reinforcement at the window panel is closer to the luff tube. No Damage on these older more used infinities.
Not winging just looking for feedback - is it just me?
Sails now at sailmaker being reinforced.
cheers Jeff

Jamming screwdrivers through them is a fairly effective way t put a hole in them.
But seriously folks ... have you asked Ezzy? He can't follow up on every single problem report, but he told me that if he gets several complaints about a particular problem, he takes it seriously and solves it.

I have 7.5 and 9.5 lions with many hours, years, crashes, rigs/de-rigs without seeing this problem but thanks for the post. Will keep my eye on this area.

I've seen this problem in numerous iterations over the years. Typically, the vinyl window stretches focusing the load of the downhaul and sail tension on the x-scrim between the vinyl window and the mast sleeve. Clearly, this x-scrim fails so the repair solution is to replace with same or replace with stronger, and/or add a second layer that extends about 8" above and below the original failure (like a gusset). Usually, I will use some of the spectra x-scrim with very closely spaced strings (often found in the foot panels of Ezzy sails) to replace the damaged panel plus a gusset of the same material to make sure the failure doesn't come back a second time.
Your mileage may vary.

sorry for late reply .. been out of loop for a bit.
Yes will contact Ezzy - as I said not wanting to whinge or complain just seeing anybody else has the problem or am I doing something wrong that obviously I'm not doing with my 7.5 and 8.5 infinities as they are still very much intact.
Over tensioning the patterns may be an issue - will check when I get the sails back. Interestingly my 8.5 Lion (secondhand) had already been repaired in the same area before I purchased it.
Overall a very happy Ezzy Sails fan - from my old SE's in small size through to my infinities and Lions from 7m up. Just bought a 6.5 Legacy for my wife - lovely sail.
As a relative keen beginner/intermediate one of the many things that Ezzy gave me was confidence in setting my sails and repeatable/predictable performance.
cheers Jeff
edit .. sent email to David Ezzy
