Just got back from South Africa. I was hoping to sail around Port Elizabeth/Jefferys Bay but I could not find a shop that would rent equipment. Everything is geared towards surfing. I was majorly bummed because the wind was 20-25.

I did see people sailing just NE of the Cape of Good Hope. The wind was big> 35 but I suspect they were locals with their own equipment. Also the water on the Atlantic side is VERY cold.

Cape Town is one of the best places to sail in the world. My opinion. Its hard to rent equipment there. A place up the west coast, about 1 hr from Cape Town, Langebaan, has a place for rental. I recall a recent article in Windsurfing Mag that had more details.. or perhaps on some webpage I found. Blouberg Strand, great wave sailing. Muizenberg, small waves, cross wind. Then there are many lakes for sailing to. The wind is VERY consistent, 20-35 knots from about Oct to MArch. You may be out of luck in May, as the winter season sets in then, the winds change, and its better to surf, or scuba dive, or hike... If you need some windsurfing contacts while in CT, feel free to email me, and I can send you some friends email addresses who still live in CT. Its a beautiful city.
