Still doable as long as you sail between noon to 3 pm.. before the commute nightmare begins. Of course there needs to be a bit of wind to make it worthwhile.

BTW..Dumbo was good on Saturday from 1 to 4 pm. I switched from a 5.0 to 4.5 after an hour. 4.5 was good for another hour before the wind drop. Used a 90L freewave board. So there are times when the drive is worthwhile..

Are you coming out for vacation or to live? Because of the now increasingly insane traffic, the best place to sail is wherever is closest to where you plan on living or working. Wherever that may be, you'll be good enough to sail there. Just remain conservative at first by staying near shore. Ask a local to fill you in on the variables to consider before sailing a given venue. Be safe, have fun.

PS - you have to be able waterstart in strong wind but also in light wind to safely sail the Bay.

Coming out for vacation in May, but if an opportunity presented, would like to make a move. My wife lived in SF/Marin in the mid 90's and we visit a least once a year.
