This year I got interested into wavesailing in S-SE-SW stormy winds during winter.
Which is the best place? I tried today waddell and davenport, and nobody was out there (even though there was wind and the forecasted NW swell was building). Is it maybe Half moon bay the place? If yes, which side (next to Mavericks or at the other end)? Some other place?

Ocean Beach can be a lot of fun in these conditions, but use caution. The surf can be quite large and very powerful. On a S-SW, launch from South part of the lot across from the Beach Chalet. Bodega Bay is awesome in these conditions. Launch by the pier on Doran Beach (nice protected launch). Youll sail straight out into the sometimes huge storm swells. I havent yet sailed the ocean part of HMB, but the North ends probably pretty good at times. When it gets too crazy, Pilar Point Harbors right there (pretty flat). Enjoy. |
