I've not sailed there a ton, but when I have thought about it... I've never been sure what the winds doin.

I saw that Iwindsurf is reporting a pretty good lineup of stations there now

Been there a bunch. This time of years you want to look for north winds. Cabin sites is the best launch. Park right on the water. Rocky launch. The cove on the north side is small gravel. Princess cove is nice but a big wind shadow and a bit of a walk to the water. Spring and summer look for south winds. Lots of places to go if you have a 4x4. Six mile cove and mid basin cove are great. If you have a boat you can almost always find a private launch and a sandy beach out of the wind. One of the best secret spots is called windy point. This place has wind when its lite everywhere else. Launch your boat out of cottonwood resort. Its a ways up the lake but often worth the ride. Many years ago, windsurf mag. rated this lake as a top 10 most windy place in the country.

I use NWS to forecast Mohave in addition to iWS. I found it more accurate for wind and temperature

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?map.x=239&map.y=285&minlon=-118.92&maxlon=-112.43&minlat=33.93&maxlat=39.26&mapwidth=354&site=vef&zmx=1&zmy=1#.WH6pdnfMwSQ

just did a trip down there in December:

that trip we just took was VERY WINDY... I basically sailed 3.8/86quad (as a twin) the whole time.

Air was cold but water was not. I think iWS and NWS were reporting air temps in the mid 50s which was forecast by NWS. iWS was forecasting temps in the high 40s to 50.

Mohave is a fun place to sail and pretty easy to get to from SoCal and four corner states. It's about 9-10 hours from the Bay Area.

Interested to make another trip there this winter!

Back in the late 90's I sailed at Cottonwood Cove during the summer on a 165ltr Seatrend with a 7.5 sail. Wind was in the low 20's, air temps over 100. Sailing from the boat ramp in the cove to the wind line requires a floaty board but after that I could have been on much smaller gear. Wife and kids rented jet skis and chased me around. We stayed at Harrahs Laughlin and it took us about an hour to get to Cottonwood.

Revising this thread to try to get an update on the sailing situation now. I cannot find any iwindsurf sensors nearby so wondering when are the windy months and how it may compare to other winter locations. Considering this as an option to La Ventana should the COVID continue to be an issue for Mexico next season.
