You will have a great time... Maui is awesome! Lived here for 5 years now and love it. You need to just play it by ear... if it's windy, go to kanaha Kia/ hot sails Maui by kanaha beach, rent gear, and have a great time sailing at kanaha. It's great! If the waves are too big there's plenty of room on the inside. Sunny and warm clear water..... paradise. You don't need to bring much. If it's not windy, no problem, there's so much to do. Whale season right now too. Best time to see whales is now. Have a great trip!

That post must have come from the Maui Tourist Bureau. The weather there has been really rainy this winter with days on end with no wind. Surf has been up so if you also surf it should be OK. As far as a beginner/intermediate on Maui, I hope you are a strong swimmer. A mast high wave or a visit to Triangles at Kanaha will clean your sinuses and the Hawaiians call Keihi "The Road to Tahiti" so don't sail alone. Worldwinds at Corpus is the best bet until after the March/April time slot. July/August is best on Maui. I usually go in September when the wind is still OK and the waves are reasonable. Shaka....
