Im going to the Dominican Republic next week and am staying in Puerta Plata at Hacienda Villa Del Mar. Is anyone familiar with this resort? Can I windsurf there, or do I have to get to Cabarete? If I have to go to Cabarete, is there an inexpensive way to get back and forth from my hotel to Cabarete? I heard that a taxi would be $50.00US. Any information on Dominican Republic will help. |

Hi,
I just got back from Cabarete. A taxi from the PP airport to Cabarete is about $20US, but you could probably negotiate less (could be more if you are actually staying in PP proper). You might just consider renting a motorcycle for the week if you plan on sailing alot (although the drivers down there are suicidal!)
Not sure about the windsurfing near PP, but Cabarete is really the place to be. We only got wind for one day despite the whole month of February being windy - hopefully you will have better luck.

Tyler :
I am looking into staying at Vela Cabarte.
1) is it safe?
2) is there a flat water place for jibing practice or are you forced out into the reef right away?
3) would you go back( Iknow you got semi skunkd)?
Many thanks
Tom
