Someone needs to say, "Welcome to the forum."

so, I'll say it.

By the way, Sherkston/Holloway Bay was where I learned to windsurf back in 1978. Original Windsurfer with teak booms. Sport has come a long way.

Maybe you should break out the teak boom and rig it on a chopper. That would be one happy teak boom.!

A rig system that cuts way down on components and isn't highly specialized? I can see why they axed it, what a shame.

I've had the chance to ask Robby about discontinued gear (and heard others do the same) his answer has always been a frustrated "because you don't buy them!" His frustration due to knowing it's a great affordable thing (sail, mast, whatever.)

He went on to explain that the expensive gear sells better.

Ya Robby can be a cocky SOB sometimes I am sure with that much passion he has for the sport. that's why he is the king! That's also why I am hopeful if he reads my article, he might revisit the Chopper idea!
There is lots of passion for the chopper sail, like no other out there. and he sold everyone he made? so why stop making them?
I agree Windsurfing consumers follow "Latest and greatest" Like no other, most of the surf industry is like that actually

i can give a 500 word essay as to why less battens are far from ideal.

but, i won't. rather a slice of why we went away from them, so long ago.

was in kanaha october 2015. el nino year, but some good lowers days were available. had a couple of last rides of the day and wanted to come back from way down wind, any way possible. was not alone. several of us were slogging upwind toward shore. wind had been veering to slightly offshore as it usually does.

well inside, wind gets swirly and puffy, watched 2 sailors on 3 batten sails get inverted and slammed close by while grinding upwind in slog mode. pretty much concludes the reason why less battens suck in less than ideal situations. i saw it coming before the sailors did. sad.

BTW, i was on a 6.2 with 5 battens and a 102 liter board. i think i had the largest kit in surf sail mode that day. in maui, as usual, i typically sail more lit up than virtually anyone while surf sailing. fashionista, i ain''t. had ZERO problems with getting the most i could from some very fun conditions.

very specific gear, quite often, does not work often enough in even the easiest places with some of the most consistently ideal conditions. why would average sailors want this kinda stuff? propaganda.
