Does anyone regularily surf with a VHF radio? A recent knee injury has forced to me consider some means of self-rescue should my knee lock-up on the water. What is the transmission range on a handheld VHF? Could I contact the CoastGaurd from e.g. Waddell or outside the Gate?
Any other useful data or tips Id greatly appreciate. |

Check out the current threads on safety and Coast Guard Rescues in rec.windsurfing. Theyve discussed cellphone and marine radios quite a bit lately, and have had many long threads on those topics in the past, and the Bay Area is the source of many of the posts.
