A ranger or “Park Interpreter” introduced himself today at Candlestick. His name is Michael Oakes.
Another windsurfer and I asked him about the status of the park. Here is what we found out.
He mentioned that bathrooms were closed due to an electrical fire, but should be reopened soon.
We asked if the park service could turn the outside shower back on, and return the trash barrels. He noted the requests.
Ranger Oakes mentioned that more staff should be maintaining Candlestick park on a regular basis now.
He also handed out an Earth Day flyer. There will be Muir of the Mountains show Saturday April 22, 2017 at 1:00 and 3:00 at the Wind Harp Hill group picnic area. Michael will portray John Muir (“Father of our National Parks”) and talk about wilderness adventures and conservation battles. Use the main entrance at 501 Hunters Point Expressway, and walk halfway to the Point to get to the shows.
Apparently there will be a Candlestick Park cleanup at 9:00 am on Saturday, but the flyer doesn’t indicate this.
It is heartening to see a Park Service presence again at the stick.
Pray for wind!! |
