Ive been sailing a Bic E-Rock with Neilpryde 6.5 and 5.0 on the sound in Hatteras, N.C. With the 5.0 max downhauled, I can seem to stay on the water in winds up to about 30 mph,(maybe a little higher, if Im fresh and sail in a crouch.) I cant really justify shelling out for a new high wind rig and board at this time, but an experienced sailor told me that if I could find a good used medium/high wind board, I could transfer my current 5.0 rig onto it and stay on the water in much higer wind. If so, what would be a good, inexpensive, used board to shop for, and how many liters should it be ? |

I guess your weight to be about 170lbs. I think the e-rock is a 100 liter board (278ish)
a nice board to look for would be a 260 (85) wave (or convertible) board in the 80-85 liter range. |

As spyder said below, ~80Liters (wave or Bump and Jump - anything made in the last 4 years or so) should handle the 5.0 nicely, and smaller sails (down to ~4.0) if you get the necessary funds in the future. I have 2 boards, 80 and 100L and they cover 4.0-6.7 conditions adequately.
One other thing, putting on a slightly smaller fin, either on your E-Rock or whatever used board you get, can help calm the board down in windy conditions much like going down a sail size...and for a lot cheaper. |
