I wanted to say thanks to a windsurfer who helped me today at Hatchery near The Point. I got separated from the rig, tried to swim to it for some time until realized I can't catch it. I gave up and started swimming to the shore, when some guy spotted me and helped: he got to my rig and held it in the water until I swam to them. Great thanks! The only thing I remember about my rescuer is his very bright luminous green shirt
I also wanted to thank the photographer, who went looking for me (my friend on the shore who saw me struggling passed the info to him somehow asking for help). Apparently by the time he went looking for me I was sailing already, but I appreciate very much the responsiveness.

Happy to help. We've all had it happen. I just remember asking if I'm going for you or the gear.

Thanks again, Mark! I also remember that I managed to say that I can swim, even though I was quite out of breath by that time

Happy to hear this ended well. I got separated from my rig at Doug's on a high wind day several years ago. No one came to help, but several watched. I came very close to drowning, and I am a strong swimmer. Don't know this rescuer but I appreciate their attentiveness and remind everyone to jump in there and help those in need! |

That can happen to ANYone of us, so kudos for the sailors or kiter's willing to get wet, take 20 minutes out of their sailing, and help out.
The unsung heros of our sport are the sailors who are willing, and able, to sacrifice part of their sailing session to help out a fellow sailor in time of need.
Kudos to Steve Yong, of Crissy Fields, for being credited with close to 20 rescues, all the more remarkable considering he weighs around 116 lbs. |

I'm not surprised to see it was Mark to the rescue... he's just that kind of guy. |
