I had a bonehead-induced separation of my board and rig at the Hatch today in big and messy conditions - and it was a separation with extreme prejudice. The board ended up 80 feet downwind in an instant and had the look of wanting to surf to the event site from there. Dale Cook sailed down and jumped in to stop its momentum. I was trying to slowly swim down to him with my rig when Wyatt Miller sailed to Dale and paddled my board upwind to me while Dale hung onto his gear.
I can't offer enough thanks to these two gentlemen; they got me out of some real trouble. It seems when you read other rescue stories one or both always seem to figure prominently. I guess it's their curse to have both an abundance of talent and an abundance of generosity. So thanks again to two totally class acts.
