Got foil two weeks ago. Used it once on Lakes bay last weekend. This weekend is "low tide" weekend on Lakes bay, so I'm looking for alternative venues for foiling. Requirements: at least 4' deep, no weeds, no heavy boat traffic. Any suggestions?

Starik,
I see your from the Philly area so you're first choice would be to find some spots in southern/central NJ. I'm thinking some of the deeper water bay launches like Allen Rd, Laurel Blvd and Trixies would be good choices in the off season but boat traffic is heavy now on all of those. I've watched kite foilers launch from Lavallette on a west/n.westerly but they have to walk about 100 yds out to launch in deep enough water.
Just west of Sandy Hook there is really nice uncrowded deep water conditions at the Spy House (aka Ideal Beach) and several other launches along this immediate strip. I've been seriously considering getting into foiling because I think these launches would provide the ideal water depth with minimal boat and beach traffic. The wind is frequently in the low to mid teens and would work for any direction except south to southwest. Water depth through all but the spring/fall low tides is chest+ deep just 50 feet from shore. unfortunately I'm dry docked for next 8 months with injuries but next spring I might make the foil investment. That strip would be my choice.

Hoe do you like the Carve with that foil? It's a board I've been considering after getting my initial crashes done on a wider one.

I used it just once so far. Seem to work OK.

I think you would very likely have issues with weeds at Trixies (or the nearby launches), at least this time of year. Some pretty big "islands" of weeds out there right now.

Hello
I see you have a Slingshot foil.
I learnt (in an unpleasant way) that if you want to keep it from deteriorating, "seizing together" and become one solid piece you need to take it apart after use, wash separately in fresh water , oil the screws and also the "fuselage" before putting together. Have a look at Slingshot Academy.
I got a new foil like yours and it promises to be lots of fun.
Did you find anywhere on the Internet some more specific directions on controlling this wild horse?
Thanks
Alena

Hi Alena!
Slingshot and "Academy" emphasize a lot on corrosion prevention. I assemble all bolts on Corrosion Block High-Performance Grease - works good for me. Most corrosion I see on aluminum parts where they contact carbon parts.
I didn't find any good, foil specific resources, besides of Foil Academy, but there is a lot of discussions on subject on Internet with good ideas and pointers, just search.
From my experience: it's bad idea to use foil in gusty winds, it's way to unstable on gusts.

I haven't found eel grass to be a major factor unless you are really underpowered and almost unnoticeable if you are up on the foil.
