Like everyone, you have your preferences. Did you rule out 6.0-8.5 freeride boards based on boards you tried, or a consensus of what you have heard or read? One could say that no manufacturer makes that board, or one could say that several manufacturers make that board, provided one selects the right size. What would sway your opinion...half a dozen people chiming in that the ______ does it all?

as coachg says - it depends on conditions
i have not used a board that works for me in 6-oh and 8.5 conditions
a futura 133 for example is about 77 cm wide and comes with a 48+ cm fin
that sounds like 8-oh board to me
even in 7-oh conditions here, unless skimming over the chop you are slamming down over the chop with that 77 cm width
i have used boards in that width range from 7.0 - 10.0 sails and preferred > 8
locally people seem to use light wind boards for > 8 meters
and narrower boards for less width
a Hawk 125 or 135 should come close, but only tried one once
buddy has a 135 and bought an FSW for his 6.0 sail
as you say - each to his own
sorry i asked ...

I've sailed a 155l powered up on a 4.5 in fairly flat water. So it's definitely less about wind and much more about water conditions.

More correctly you pick the board size for the water and sail for the wind.
