I counted nearly 10 days this July where winds have averaged over 20mph between 6 and 8am so i wouldn't write off dawn patrol yet. Maybe not the best sessions of the day but as stated above there are no crowds. I would spend the time to drive to the Hatchery though.

You're right. Although not exactly dawn patrol, it has been better this year than most recent years. If the crowds are holding off until 8 or so (the place got parked out and the swell packed by 7 in the 90s), that's good enough. Maybe there's hope yet.
